The American Eagle Silver Coins obverse features Liberty in full walk enveloped in the folds of the American flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. The American Eagle Uncirculated Coins feature a finish like their bullion opposite numbers, but to indicate their production at The United States Mint that is located at West Point, they carry the "W" mint mark. Each coin is encompassed in protecting plastic and placed in a blue presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of veracity signed by the Director of the US Mint, Edmund C Moy.

The United States Mint must produce a new hub if they want to alter the planning of the American Eagle Silver Coins. To fashion new dies, a hub that contains an image that is raised, or contains a relief of the design of the coin, is impressed into the steel. Dies are used in the particular striking of coins, as they have an image of the design of the coin which is incused.
NCG is of the opinion that this year the U. S. Mint metamorphosed from standard engraved hubs composed of reducing a hand engraved galvano to hubs that are engraved by laser.
In the process of the transition, rehubbing, as it is called infrequently, a few changes in design were made on both sides of the coin, with a stress on the lettering.
The letters on the 2008 Silver Eagle are taller and skinnier, filling the fields much more than in prior years. On the reverse, one of the clearest differences from prior years can be discovered in the stars above the eagle.
The 2008 issue, naturally, isn't alone in design changes. The most blatant is a change to the finish of these coins which goes from a glossy surface used early in the series to the matte finish of today. For collectors, it is nice to know that though the coins are similar year to year, they can predict insignificant changes that only a consultant might recognize.
Be highly aware of counterfeits when investing in American Eagle Silver Coins. Authorized Collectibles Group / NGC VP Scott Schechter and PCGS President Don Willis made the statement that both authentication agencies have purchased fake coins and dies for investigation purposes and to take them off the market. Both firms have been working to get fake auction lists removed, but both also have seen a rise in the amoun

t of counterfeit coins being submitted to them. NGC has begun putting out notice with remitted counterfeits reminding submitters it is against the law to sell false items or facsimiles that are not marked with the word "copy", and PCGS will follow suit with a similar warning to submitters.
There seems to be an influx of counterfeit coins from China. They are well known for producing fake designer wear, so I suppose it should be no surprise that they have turned their attention to the collectible coin market as well. The best antidote for fake coins is to become very knowledgeable about collectible, rare and valuable coins so that you will be able to spot a fake a mile off.

Collecting Gold Coins can be a highly rewarding and pleasurable activity, it actually dates back to when coins were very first issued for trade. This was the American 1933 Gold Eagle. This is why the collecting of gold coins deserves to earn for itself, the title, the 'hobby' of kings and queens.

Gold coins were one of the very oldest forms of money, or currency. This was later followed by silver coins. Gold coins were in circulation in the US from 1838 until 1933. The design was the Liberty Head bust, however this was only minted until 1907. This design was then changed to the Indian Head and Saint Gaudens motifs and was used until 1933, the start of the Great Depression. This then prompted the recall of gold coins which makes them very difficult to locate today.

Since these are no longer in circulation, the price alone for one of these commodities is actually quite high. Gold is also now used for other products such as jewelery or gold bars that people also retain for investment purposes.

South Africa minted it's first gold coin which was called the Kruggarand in 1967. This coin actually has no face value but merely stands as a symbol. It is made from one ounce of gold and can be bought for investment purposes.

Since then, other countries have also minted gold bullion coins. Canada made the gold maple leaf gold coin in the year 1979 and Australia followed suit with the Gold Nugget in 1981. These two are in actual fact much more p

opular than the South African Kruggarand gold coin because of it's 24 carat purity.

A lot of individuals today retain gold and gold coins as an investment because they speculate that the demand will cause it's market value to increase. Other people hold onto gold as a form of insurance especially in view of the present shaky market conditions and downturn in the economy. There was a point in time when the more paper money that was produced, as released by the banks, the higher the market value of gold which maintained gold and cash as equal value. After this standard came to the end of it's day in 1971, this enabled government to produce more paper currency without increasing the price of gold itself.

For an excellent source of gold coins on the market today, actually ebay has a good range available from within it's marketplace, although you are well advised to do your research first before simply rushing in. Of course many positive feedbacks given to an individual seller will give that individual greater credibility and respect. If you do you due diligence you too could soon be collecting gold coins either for investment or simply for the great pleasure that can be gleaned from researching their history and use.
